Emma Raducanu Shines at Wimbledon with Stunning Win Over Former Champion Vondrousova
Emma Raducanu powered her way into the third round of Wimbledon 2025 on Wednesday, delivering a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory over former champion Marketa Vondrousova.
In what many are calling one of the best performances of her career, the 21-year-old Brit displayed confidence, precision, and grit on Centre Court. With world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka awaiting her in the next round, Raducanu knows the challenge only intensifies from here.
“I think today I played really, really well,” Raducanu said post-match. “There were some points I have no idea how I turned around.”
Grinning from ear to ear, Raducanu thanked her team, including coach Mark Petchey, who has been in her corner since the Miami Open. The victory was especially sweet considering her last Wimbledon meeting with Vondrousova came in 2021 — when Raducanu, just 18 at the time, was making her breakout debut.
Back then, she won their second-round clash in similar style. This time, her poise and dominance were even more striking.
“I knew playing Marketa was going to be extremely tough,” Raducanu added. “She’s a former Wimbledon champion — that’s a massive achievement. I’m just really proud of how I stayed focused and played my game.”
Raducanu went on to reach the fourth round in 2021 and famously captured the U.S. Open title later that year. Now, facing Sabalenka, she enters as the underdog — but sees that as an advantage.
“I’m just thrilled to play another match here,” she said. “Sabalenka is world No. 1, she’s been so dominant and has won everything. Honestly, there’s no pressure on me at all — I’m just enjoying the ride.”
