Enzo Maresca Hails Chelsea’s Bright Future After Seeing ‘Huge Talent’ Estêvão in Action

Estêvão Shines in Farewell for Palmeiras as Maresca Hails Chelsea’s “Huge Talent” Signing

Chelsea’s future star Estêvão made a lasting impression in his final appearance for Palmeiras, scoring a stunning goal in their Club World Cup quarter-final clash against his soon-to-be employers. Despite Palmeiras falling 2-1 to Chelsea after a late own goal by Weverton, the 18-year-old winger was named Player of the Match and left fans buzzing with anticipation for his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Estêvão, who will officially join Chelsea next season following a £52 million deal agreed last year, equalized early in the second half with a sensational strike. The Brazilian teenager showcased his flair, strength, and composure on the big stage—just months before he’s set to make his Premier League debut.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was full of praise for the young talent. “You can see he’s a huge talent, a fantastic player,” said Maresca. “Now it’s about helping him adapt to Europe, enjoy his football, and continue growing. We’re confident he’ll be an important player for Chelsea.”

Cole Palmer, who opened the scoring for Chelsea, shared a moment with Estêvão at full-time, swapping shirts and offering a warm welcome—though, by Palmer’s own admission, the language barrier proved amusing. “I told him we’re excited for him to join, but he didn’t understand a word,” he joked.

Estêvão reflected on his time at Palmeiras with gratitude: “I’m happy I could score, even though the result didn’t go our way. I thank Palmeiras for everything—they will always be in my heart.”

Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira urged Chelsea to nurture their young signing both on and off the field. “You bought an amazing player—and an amazing person. He’ll need time, support, and patience. But he’s strong, skillful, and can win games on his own.”

Ferreira also pointed out Estêvão’s resilience under pressure, including some physical challenges from Marc Cucurella, suggesting the youngster is ready for the intensity of English football. “He looks slim, but he’s strong and fast. That goal with his right foot showed his incredible talent.”

Elsewhere, Chelsea faces squad challenges ahead of their semi-final clash with Fluminense. Levi Colwill and Liam Delap will be suspended after picking up yellow cards, while Roméo Lavia’s fitness is in doubt, and Reece James pulled out pre-match due to muscle tightness. Moisés Caicedo is expected to return from suspension.

Off the pitch, Chelsea are dealing with a £27 million UEFA fine for Financial Fair Play breaches. The financial strain has raised concerns over whether the club can register new players for European competition, prompting speculation over possible summer sales. Both Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke, who featured against Palmeiras, are reportedly on the shortlist of potential departures as Chelsea looks to balance the books.
