Lando Norris Claims Victory in Thrilling 2025 British Grand Prix: Full F1 Results and Highlights

Lando Norris Secures Emotional Home Victory in Wild British Grand Prix

Lando Norris claimed his long-awaited and emotional first British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone in a race defined by changing weather, chaotic incidents, and dramatic penalties. The McLaren driver inherited the lead after teammate Oscar Piastri was handed a 10-second time penalty for a safety car infringement — a blow to the Australian, who had dominated large portions of the race.

Piastri had surged into the lead on Lap 9, overtaking Max Verstappen in wet conditions after a strategic tire gamble paid off. Several drivers had rolled the dice on the formation lap, opting for slicks despite the wet track, while most, including Piastri and Norris, stuck with intermediates. The early laps were incident-heavy, with Liam Lawson spinning off on Lap 2 after contact, triggering the first Virtual Safety Car (VSC). Shortly after, Gabriel Bortoleto lost control on slicks and retired, prompting another VSC on Lap 6.

As the rain intensified, the full Safety Car was deployed from Laps 14 to 18. However, just as the race resumed, it was neutralized again following a heavy crash by Isack Hadjar. The constant interruptions tested drivers’ concentration and strategy.

The restart on Lap 22 proved costly for Verstappen, who spun and fell back to 10th place, eliminating his chances of a comeback. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri appeared to be cruising toward victory — until news broke that he had incurred a 10-second penalty for improperly managing the SC restart. Forced to serve it during a late pit stop, his lead vanished.

Norris, cheered on by a raucous home crowd, inherited the lead and didn’t look back. His calm drive under pressure delivered him not only a victory but a symbolic moment in front of his British fans — a milestone win in treacherous conditions.

The feel-good story of the day came from veteran Nico Hülkenberg, who charged from 19th on the grid to finish third, claiming the first podium of his career in what was his 239th Grand Prix start — the most races any F1 driver had completed before standing on the podium for the first time.
