HBO and Max Dominate 2025 Emmy Nominations, Powered by ‘The Penguin’ and ‘The White Lotus’
HBO and Max made a powerful return to Emmy dominance, earning a record-breaking 142 nominations for the 77th annual awards — their highest total ever. The surge was led by major players like The Penguin (24 noms), The White Lotus (23), and The Last of Us (16). Additional hits like Hacks and newcomer The Pitt pushed five titles to account for 63% of the total haul.

The combined HBO/Max tally eclipses their previous high of 137 in 2019, before Max launched. Together with nominations from Warner Bros. TV, Adult Swim, Discovery, and Food Network, Warner Bros. Discovery topped all media conglomerates with 170 total nods — outpacing Disney (137) and Netflix (121).
Apple TV+ also made a big leap with 81 nominations — its best ever — thanks to Severance (27) and breakout comedy The Studio (23), which broke Ted Lasso’s first-season record. Meanwhile, Netflix scored only three shows with double-digit nods but maintained a strong presence across 44 programs. FX saw a notable drop to 35 total nominations, led by The Bear Season 3 with 13.
