Emma Watson has been officially banned from driving in the UK for six months, according to multiple reports. The “Harry Potter” and “Beauty and the Beast” star’s driving privileges were revoked following a speeding incident that occurred in July 2024.
The actress was caught driving her Audi at 38 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone in Oxford, exceeding the speed limit by 8 mph. This traffic violation resulted in Watson accumulating over nine penalty points on her driving license, which automatically triggered the driving ban.
At a hearing held at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, Watson was ordered not only to surrender her driving privileges for half a year but also to pay a fine of £1,044 (approximately $1,405). According to a statement by Watson’s lawyer, Mark Haslam, the actress is “in a position to pay the fine,” demonstrating her willingness to comply with the court’s ruling.
Notably, Watson herself was not present during the brief hearing. Currently, she is focusing on her studies as a student at the University of Oxford, having taken a pause from her acting career. Efforts to reach her representatives for comment have been made.
Adding an unexpected twist to the story, Zoë Wanamaker—who starred alongside Watson in the Harry Potter series as Madam Hooch—was also banned from driving by the same court on the very same day. Wanamaker was caught speeding last August, driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone. Like Watson, she received a six-month driving ban and a fine of £1,044.
This coincidence of two co-stars facing similar penalties in the same court on the same day has attracted attention and added an intriguing chapter to their off-screen lives.
