A Mockery!’: TikTok Users Rip Kroger’s Juneteenth Cakes for Lack of Creativity

Kroger Slammed on TikTok Over “Lazy” Juneteenth Cakes: ‘This Is a Mockery!’

Kroger is facing heat on social media after a TikTok video showing its Juneteenth-themed cakes went viral for all the wrong reasons. The clip, filmed at a store in Atlanta, Georgia, captured several bakery items decorated with bare-minimum phrases like “Free @ last,” “June 19 free,” and simply “Free.”

TikTok creator @blaq.monalisa posted the video on June 18, writing in the caption: “Why even bother if you’re going to lack creativity?” and calling the display “a mockery.” The video has since drawn over 10 million views, sparking outrage over what many see as a halfhearted corporate attempt to acknowledge a deeply meaningful holiday.

“Who the hell made this ugly a– s—?” the creator said in the video, clearly disappointed by the effort — or lack thereof.

They also noted the store had no managers available at the time to answer questions about the cake designs but vowed to return the next day to speak with someone.

Cakes Disappear After Viral Blow-Up

In a follow-up video, @blaq.monalisa said the cakes were no longer available on shelves. It’s unclear whether Kroger removed them in response to the backlash or if they were sold. Either way, the user wasn’t impressed by the outcome, stating:

“TikTok, y’all did it. But I still feel some type of way that they didn’t replace them with better Juneteenth cakes.”

Social Media Users Sound Off

Comments on the original video echoed the creator’s frustration, with some viewers calling the cakes “disrespectful,” “lazy,” and even “deliberately bad.”

“I’m highly disappointed in Kroger,” one user commented.
“This looks like a welcome home from jail cake,” another wrote.
Others compared the controversy to Walmart’s 2022 Juneteenth ice cream, which was pulled from shelves following backlash.
