Food Network’s Anne Burrell Death Confirmed as Suicide by Medical Examiner

The New York City Medical Examiner has confirmed that Food Network star Anne Burrell died by suicide, citing acute intoxication from multiple substances as the cause of death. Burrell was found unresponsive in her Brooklyn home last month and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to New York officials.

The fire department responded to a cardiac arrest call at Burrell’s residence on the morning of June 17, arriving at 7:50 a.m. Though officials did not initially name her, the cause of death was officially confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Anne Burrell, celebrated for her sharp wit and culinary expertise, developed a passion for cooking from an early age, inspired by her mother and Julia Child. She trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America before teaching and eventually launching a successful television career.

She gained recognition as a sous chef on “Iron Chef America” and later hosted her own show, “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef,” which aired for four years. Over the years, Burrell appeared on popular Food Network programs such as “Chopped,” “Chef Wanted,” and “Food Network Star.” In 2010, she became the host of “Worst Cooks in America,” further solidifying her place in the culinary world.

In addition to her TV career, Burrell was a frequent guest on NBC’s “TODAY” show, where she shared easy and delicious recipes with morning viewers. The night before her passing, she was seen performing improv comedy with friends at The Second City in Brooklyn.

Following her death, Burrell’s family released a heartfelt statement: “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
