As summer heat intensifies across the Empire State, the National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a heat advisory for much of western and central New York on Thursday, July 24, in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Heat index values in the mid- to upper-90s
  • Actual temperatures reaching:
    • Mid-90s in Rochester, Syracuse, and nearby areas
    • Low-90s in parts of the Southern Tier, including Ithaca and Elmira
  • Elevated risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for children, seniors, and outdoor workers
