Iga Świątek Reaches Bad Homburg Open Semifinals After Dominant Win

Poland’s Iga Świątek Advances to Bad Homburg Open Semifinals with Win Over Ekaterina Alexandrova

Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has booked her place in the semifinals of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open, a key grass-court tournament held in Germany ahead of Wimbledon. The world No. 8 secured a hard-fought straight-sets victory over Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova on Thursday, winning 6–4, 7–6 (7–4) in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles draw.

Świątek, 24, displayed consistent baseline play and excellent movement on the grass surface to overcome the 18th-ranked Alexandrova, who is known for her aggressive style and strong serve. The match was closely contested, especially in the second set, which required a tiebreaker to decide the outcome. Świątek held her nerve, closing out the tiebreak 7–4 to seal the match in straight sets.

This victory comes after the Polish star received a bye in the opening round and went on to defeat former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the round of 16. Świątek’s path to the final continues as she prepares to face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the semifinal. Paolini, ranked inside the WTA Top 20, has also been in excellent form throughout the tournament.

The Bad Homburg Open, part of the WTA Tour 250 series, serves as a crucial preparation event for Wimbledon, the prestigious Grand Slam tournament set to begin Monday in London. For Świątek, who is looking to fine-tune her grass-court game, a strong performance in Bad Homburg could provide much-needed momentum heading into SW19.

This latest win highlights Świątek’s growing adaptability across all surfaces, as she continues to build on her impressive 2025 season.
