Monster Hunter Wilds Review Bombed Amid PC Woes and Disappointing Endgame

Monster Hunter Wilds Review Bombed Over PC Woes and Weak Endgame Content

Monster Hunter Wilds is facing mounting criticism on Steam, as players express disappointment over poor PC performance and an underwhelming endgame. Despite a strong launch and impressive early sales, player engagement has dropped significantly, with Wilds now trailing behind 2018’s Monster Hunter World in active user numbers.

The bulk of the backlash centers on serious technical issues. Players report frequent crashes, low frame rates, and stuttering—even on high-end machines. “It’s really frustrating that the game can’t run smoothly on something like the Steam Deck, especially when other, more demanding titles perform better,” wrote one user, Scoriox.

Veteran fans are also voicing concern over the game’s shallow endgame. Many argue that Wilds lacks meaningful post-campaign content and replayability, leading some to revisit Monster Hunter World, which featured a more robust and satisfying endgame progression.

This isn’t uncharted territory for the series. As reviewer LilimVixen noted, the base version of World faced similar criticisms before the Iceborne expansion added substantial content. Whether Wilds will receive a comparable upgrade remains uncertain.

Community reaction is sharply divided. Some players, like Tiamantus, have described Wilds as a “betrayal” of the franchise’s core appeal, comparing it to turning a Souls game into a casual experience. Others, including Genevieve Vavance and Simp King Ken, argue the criticism is premature, pointing out that early releases in the series often lack depth until bolstered by post-launch updates.

Capcom has acknowledged the complaints and promised performance patches, but the slow rollout has only deepened fan frustration—especially following similar optimization issues with Dragon’s Dogma 2. As a result, some are questioning the company’s overall commitment to PC support.

Still, not all players are disillusioned. A segment of the community appreciates Wilds for its more relaxed pacing and streamlined gameplay, signaling a broader shift in what different fans now expect from the Monster Hunter experience.
