No Winning Ticket on Labor Day Pushes Powerball Jackpot to $1.3 Billion

The Powerball jackpot has skyrocketed to an eye-popping $1.3 billion after no one managed to snag the grand prize in Monday night’s Labor Day drawing. That makes it the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history — and dreams are running wild for players across the country.

The winning numbers drawn were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53, and the red Powerball 5, with a Power Play multiplier of 3. While no ticket matched all six numbers for the top prize, there were still some big wins sprinkled across the map. One lucky player in Montana and another in North Carolina each scored $2 million, while 10 other tickets in nine different states brought home $1 million apiece, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

The jackpot has now rolled over for the 41st consecutive drawing since it was last hit back in May. That means the next shot at glory comes on Wednesday night — and someone could walk away a billionaire if fortune smiles their way.

Winners who do hit the jackpot face a big decision: take the $1.3 billion as an annuity spread out over 30 years, with payments rising 5% each year, or go for the lump sum option of $589 million (before taxes, of course).

But don’t forget — the odds of hitting all six numbers are a mind-boggling 1 in 292.2 million. Still, that hasn’t stopped millions of Americans from lining up for tickets, each with a two-dollar dream.

For perspective, the biggest Powerball jackpot ever was the $2.04 billion prize won in California on November 7, 2022. And the longest streak without a jackpot hit? 42 drawings in a row, set just last year in April 2024.

Powerball tickets go for $2 each, available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

So, will Wednesday finally crown a new billionaire, or will the jackpot keep climbing into record-breaking territory?
