Report: CB Shaquill Griffin Expected to Rejoin Seahawks in Free Agency

Shaquill Griffin Reuniting with Seahawks After Years Apart

Veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin is officially heading back to where his NFL journey began—the Seattle Seahawks. According to a report from insider Jordan Schultz, Griffin has agreed to terms with the team as of Wednesday, marking a full-circle moment in his career.

Talks of a reunion between Griffin and the Seahawks reportedly began six weeks ago, and after weeks of discussion and mutual interest, the deal has now been finalized.

Griffin, who is 29 years old, was originally selected by Seattle in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. During his four-season stint with the team, he emerged as a key contributor in the secondary and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019—the only Pro Bowl selection of his career to date.

Since leaving Seattle, Griffin has had stops with multiple NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, and most recently, the Minnesota Vikings. In the 2024 season, Griffin played in all 17 games for the Vikings, including three starts, and registered two interceptions and six passes defensed, showing he still has the ability to contribute at a high level.

Over the course of his NFL career, Griffin has appeared in 106 games and made 82 starts. His cumulative stats include 70 passes defensed and nine interceptions, solidifying his reputation as a dependable and experienced cornerback.

As he rejoins the Seahawks, Griffin is expected to bring not only depth and veteran leadership to the cornerback room but also familiarity with the system and culture in Seattle. His return comes at a time when the Seahawks are reshaping their defense and could benefit from the presence of a seasoned player who already knows the environment.
