”Scottie Scheffler Says Bettors Drove Him to Delete His Venmo Account”

Being the favorite to win a major golf tournament isn’t always glamorous — just ask world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Ahead of the 2025 US Open at Oakmont Country Club, Scheffler revealed that relentless pressure from bettors forced him to delete his Venmo account. With fans frequently placing wagers on his performance, the 28-year-old said he was overwhelmed with messages — mostly not of gratitude, but requests.

“I don’t remember the most that somebody would send me,” Scheffler said. “Maybe a couple bucks here or there. That didn’t happen nearly as much as the requests did.”

Despite never winning a US Open, Scheffler enters the tournament as the odds-on favorite after capturing three wins in his last four starts, including the 2025 PGA Championship. His latest triumph came with a commanding four-stroke victory at the Memorial Tournament, placing him alongside Tiger Woods as the only back-to-back winners of that event.

Now turning his focus to Oakmont, a notoriously difficult course hosting its record 10th US Open, Scheffler remains undaunted. “When Thursday morning starts, we’re all even par,” he said. “It’s just me versus the golf course.”

He described Oakmont as “probably the hardest golf course that we’ll play maybe ever,” citing its fast greens and thick rough as key challenges. “Strength and power definitely come into play here.”

Scheffler will tee off at 1:25 p.m. ET Thursday alongside Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, as fans tune in to follow the action, check US Open tee times, make their US Open picks, and follow the US Open TV schedule. As one of the top US Open predictions, Scheffler aims to secure his fourth title of the year at US Open Golf 2025.
