‘Resident Alien’ Cancelled After Season 4 – Final Episode Airs August 8
There’s no saving Resident Alien this time. The beloved sci-fi comedy-drama, starring Alan Tudyk, will officially end with its fourth season, as confirmed by Deadline. The Season 4 finale, scheduled for August 8, will now serve as the show’s series finale.
Resident Alien narrowly escaped cancellation after Season 3, receiving a lifeline in the form of a reduced budget and a network switch—from Syfy to USA Network, both under NBCUniversal. Season 4 ultimately aired on both networks simultaneously. Despite the series gaining popularity through previous seasons on Netflix, the latest episodes struggled to maintain strong ratings, especially amid the broader decline in cable viewership. Additionally, the show failed to gain momentum on NBCU’s streaming platform, Peacock.
Series creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan, who adapted the series from the Dark Horse comic, admitted he wasn’t expecting another renewal.
“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan told TV Insider. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is—and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”
At the time of cancellation, Resident Alien was the only ongoing scripted series on USA Network. The channel’s next scripted project is the legal drama The Rainmaker.
Season 4 takes the series into intense territory. It begins with Harry (played by Tudyk) and his baby, Bridget, imprisoned on the Grey Moonbase. Meanwhile, a sinister, shape-shifting alien known as the Mantid has assumed Harry’s identity on Earth. When Harry manages to escape and return home, he must confront the Mantid—but it becomes clear he may not be strong enough to finish what he started.
As Harry fights his battle, Asta and D’Arcy struggle to hide a critical secret from Ben and Kate, who are desperate for answers. Meanwhile, Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv investigate a string of mysterious deaths in the town of Patience, which may be caused by something far from human.
