Three Deputies Killed in Explosion at East L.A. Sheriff’s Training Academy

A tragic explosion early Friday morning claimed the lives of three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies at the Biscailuz Regional Training Center in East Los Angeles.

The blast occurred around 7:30 a.m. at 1060 N. Eastern Ave., the location of the LASD’s training facility, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Authorities have confirmed three fatalities, all believed to be sheriff’s deputies.

Details remain limited, but officials described hearing a “loud noise” and are still working to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Aerial footage from Sky5 captured a shattered LASD vehicle, a backpack on the ground, and visible damage to a tarp covering bomb squad trucks—suggesting the blast may have involved explosives.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad arrived at the scene around 8:45 a.m., and federal officials have joined the investigation. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi acknowledged the incident on social media, calling it a “horrific” event and requesting prayers for the families affected.

An employee at the scene told KTLA that the explosion felt like an earthquake due to the intensity of the ground shaking.

While officials have not officially confirmed the cause, early reports suggest the explosion was accidental in nature.
